The Diocese of Leiria-Fatima will close two newspapers, one of the oldest in the district, and abandon regional journalism. “The economic crisis did rush a decision that was already being discussed for a long time, at least 15 years, which is to abandon regional journalism  and concentrate on the creation of a new national  title” explained the head of the office of information and communication diocese.

The priest pointed out that “it makes no sense to be accumulating losses in the [regional journalism] that others do best and which are geared”, whereby O Mensageiro and A Voz do Domingo will no longer be published.

The Diocese of Leiria-Fatima will come up with a new editorial project, which still has no name.
