Newsweek plans to return to paper

Newsweek_LogoLoNewsweek, the legendary American weekly magazine that ceased publication in printed format last year, plans to return to the paper format, according to a report of The New York Times.

After several months of experimenting with a new online format, will be published two paper editions in the months of January and February.

The model is based on a subscriptions system similar to The Economist.

Jeff Bezos will save newspapers?

Given the current crisis of the business model and the need for new strategies that are reflected in profit, the newspaper industry welcomes the purchase of the Washington Post by the Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

The expectations that Bezos transform the Washington Post in a viable business go far beyond the newspaper itself. Many hope that by saving the newspaper, Bezos find the magic potion that others can copy.

However, Jeff Bezos knows that there is no magic potion and believes that there is a long way to make the business profitable again: “There is a map and draw a path for the future will not be easy. We’ll have to invent, which means that we have to try. ”

El Mundo moves forward with new development model

El_Mundo-logo-03E168BBB2-seeklogo.com_The Spanish daily El Mundo started a revolution at all levels, with particular focus on digital versions. The management considers that this transformation is “an earthquake in the tsunami”, which puts it few years ahead of the competition.

A reputed member of the Royal Spanish Academy, Luis María Anson, stated in his opinion column that “EL MUNDO is the first Spanish printed periodical that settles in the future.”

The German press’ tipping year

In Germany, print advertising loss is reaching into the double digits, several points higher than the United States. Two of the nation’s leading dailies, in Hamburg and Berlin, have just been sold by the largest publicly owned publisher in Europe, Axel Springer. Leading newspapers are talking about going ad-free and relying almost entirely on reader revenue.

Jornal da Madeira will be restructured

Given these results, which indicate the technical bankruptcy of Jornal da Madeira, sources close to the newspaper advanced that the indication is to “restructure the company.” Source of the Social Democratic party of the region recognizes that “there has been mismanagement by the various administrations.”

C magazine returns with monthly periodicity

537692_507172599329718_1566315679_nC magazine, which suspended publication on January 14, returns to newsstands in a monthly periodicity and a circulation of 5,000 copies, distributed in the districts of Aveiro, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Guarda, Leiria and Viseu. The responsibles for the new title announced the return of the publication – wich changes the periodicity  from weekly to monthly – and explained that the project presents “fresh content and approach positioned in the segment trending & events”.

Qüir magazine no longer published on paper

11497910_mb4RVThe magazine Qüir announced that it will only be available in digital format. The project started in May 2012 as a bimonthly magazine of 52 pages and a digital version addressed to the LGBT community.

According to officials, the magazine will no longer have the paper edition and can be downloaded to mobile phones, tablets and computers.

Event Point is no longer sold in newssatands

Event_point_logoEvent Point magazine, dedicated to the events industry, will leave the newsstands and will be sold by subscription only. Among the reasons for this decision, it was pointed out, in a press release, “distribution costs, the difficulty of working as a specialized magazine  in retail outlets and some waste as a result of handling during transport and storage of the magazine.” The publication provides, however, that this “reset strategy does not compromise the number of copies per issue, which remains in 3500.”
