Ana Duarte Melo started her professional career as a journalist, but she has been an advertiser, copywriter and creative director for more than 15 years. She studied Social Communication (Universidade Nova de Lisboa) and graduated with a thesis on “Directo – o arrepio da realidade: simulacro e performatividade na informação televisiva / Live TV – the thrill of reality: simulation and performance on TV information” and she is Master in Arts in Screenwriting – Sound and Image (Universidade Católica Portuguesa) with an original script for a feature movie “Alguém viu a minha vida por aí? / Have anyone seen my life around here?”. In recent years she has been teaching Advertising, Public Relations and Communication and Design Theories, researching and lecturing on Advertising, Consumption and Citizenship, the theme of her ongoing PhD project. She is an Assistant Professor of the Communication Sciences Department, Universidade do Minho and researcher of CECS (Communication and Society Research Centre) of Universidade do Minho, Braga, Portugal. She is also research member of the project “Media Regulation in Portugal: The ERC’s Case”, member of the Emergent Scholars Network of IAMCR – International Association for Media and Communication Research and vice-chair of the OSCS – Organization and Strategic Communication Section of ECREA – European Communication Research and Education Association.
